2016 Gaming Resolutions

As well as getting my wargames table up and running, I’d like to play a lot more RPGs in 2016. 12 RPGs in 12 months. Or at least 12 different settings.

Here’s a selection of RPGs from my library that I’d like to give an airing. It’s been a wee while since I rolled dem bones!

The Williamson Tunnels

“The Williamson Tunnels are a labyrinth of tunnels in the Edge Hill area of Liverpool, England, which were built under the direction of the eccentric businessman Joseph Williamson between the early 19th century and 1840.”

“[He]… acquired an area of land… which was then a largely undeveloped outcrop of sandstone… [and] started to build houses on the site. These houses were eccentric in design “of the strangest description” without any rational plans…”

“He continued to employ his workmen, sometimes to carry out apparently pointless tasks, such as moving rubble from one place to another, then back again. His major project was to build a labyrinth of brick-arched tunnels in various directions and over various lengths within the sandstone.”

“Williamson was secretive about his motives. This has led to speculation that he was a member of an extremist religious sect fearing that the end of the world was near and that the tunnels were built to provide refuge for himself and his friends.”

The Dreamlands

The stories in H.P. Lovecraft’s Dream Cycle are some of my favourite weird tales. I’ve just heard news that The Dreamlands film could be a reality through the wonders of crowdfunding.

According to the production team The Dreamlands will be…

… based on H.P. Lovecraft’s short stories “Celephaïs”, “The White Ship”, “The Strange High House in the Mist” and “The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath” among others. It will build upon the world created by H.P. Lovecraft but also remain faithful to his core concepts of fantastic escapism and cosmic horror.

Huan Vu (director, writer) previously worked on Die Farbe, a film adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Colour Out of Space”, which renowned Lovecraftian scholar S.T. Joshi called “one of the best Lovecraft adaptations you will ever see”. Here’s a 6 minute trailer of The Dreamlands to whet your appetite for what could possibly be…

As of today (07/07/14) the project is almost 60% funded with 28 days to go before the crowdfunding deadline. Here’s a link to the project page on Indiegogo if you want to help bring The Dreamlands to life…

Kickstarter: Achtung! Cthulhu

exploring-evil

Nazis & Cthulhu? Possibly the best evil tag team ever!

Ever since watching Raider of the Lost Ark as a kid I’ve thought that Nazis make the best baddies in Hollywood. So what could be better than an RPG that features both Nazis and the otherworldy evil of Great Cthulhu? That’s what the British games publisher Modiphius has done. Their Kickstarter to produce a Keeper’s and Investigator’s Guide for the Achtung! Cthulhu setting has already been successfully funded. So much so, that it’s grown many arms and legs – I’m sure the tentacled overlord would approve!

I would be here all day letting you know all the gaming goodies they’ve managed to unlock in their campaign so you’d best have a look with your own eyes. But best be quick if you wanna get in on the action because the Achtung! Cthulhu Kickstarter ends today.
